Boys Basketball: Renaldo Garcia

Coach Renaldo Garcia joined Berkeley in 2017 as its new varsity head coach. Prior to that, he served as head basketball coach at Sickles High since 2002. His coaching accolades include leading Sickles to the 2017 Class 8A State Championship, finishing the season with an impressive 29-4 record. Other highlights include a State runner-up finish in 2010, and two Regional Championships in 2010 and 2017. Coach Garcia, who also served as the assistant coach at Sickles from 1997-2002, helped the school earn 12 regional playoff appearances (2005-2017), eight District Championships (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2017), and an overall record of 332-104, during his tenure.  He has coached several collegiate and professional players including former UNC Tar Heel and current Milwaukee Buck, John Henson. As a player, Coach Garcia was a three-year starting guard for the University of Florida from 1987-1991, where he was a member of the school’s first SEC Championship team in 1989. He played professionally for Liga Georgina de Villegas (San Pedro Sula, Honduras) from 1991-1992. In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Coach Garcia teaches full time as a member of Berkeley's Physical Education department.
